Product Summary

The FT702IS Intrinsically Safe Airflow Monitoring System has been designed for use in a wide range of airflow and wind monitoring applications in potentially explosive atmospheres. Unlike most other airflow sensors, the FT702IS measures both the magnitude and the direction of the airflow.

The FT702IS is certified for use in both indoor and outdoor hazardous areas and is EEx ia rated for Zone 0,1 and 2 areas, gas groups IIA, IIB and IIC, and temperature class T5. The Sensor is rated over the temperature range –40degC to +80degC. The measurement range of the FT702IS is 0-70m/s with a resolution of either 0.1m/s or 0.01m/s. The flow direction is measured through a full 360deg with a resolution of 1deg. The 0.1m/s resolution option is designed primarily for wind speed and wind direction monitoring. Typical applications for this option include the monitoring of wind conditions on offshore platforms, petro-chemical works and other hazardous area sites, and in dockside unloading areas. The 0.01m/s resolution option is designed for applications where very low flows need to be measured, as in industrial emissions monitoring, VOC emission rates, manufacturing process control and monitoring airflows in tunnels and mines. 

The system is a self-contained solution for continuous monitoring applications and comprises a compact Ultrasonic Airflow Sensor and a DIN rail mounting Safety Interface Module. The Safety Interface Module provides all the isolation necessary between the safe and hazardous areas and accepts a standard 24V dc supply input. No other isolation or protection components are required for intrinsically safe operation.

Communication between the sensor and the Safety Interface Module requires only a simple 2-wire connection. The same 2 wires are also used to supply power to the sensor which can be mounted over 1000m from the Safety Interface Module. Data output options include dual 4-20mA current loops or RS422 serial output with NMEA 0183 data protocol.

The FT702IS features the latest patented solid-state ultrasonic airflow sensing technology which keeps the cost of ownership low because maintenance down-time is significantly reduced by the absence of any moving parts.
